Following two sought-after limited edition releases and recent singles Protocol and The Fear The Hate, Society have announced the release of their debut album All That We’ve Become and new single Will To Win. Their debut album will be released digitally this Friday and physically on 2nd September with new single Will To Win available on the same date, both via Luv Luv Luv Records/Virgin EMI.

Despite an initial veil of enigma, Society was revealed to be 24-year-old singer Jamie Girdler as the voice behind the name and legendary producer Brendan Lynch as the sound. The duos off-kilter, suspense-filled sound has amassed a diverse list of comparisons, from the brooding likes of Portishead and The Verve to Lee Hazelwood, Serge Gainsbourg and hip hop beatsmith J. Dilla.

New single Will To Win is dripping with atmospheric, cinematic sound building to a euphoric chorus backed by nostalgia soaked vocals and is a fitting introduction to Society’s debut record. The single has exclusively and excitingly been remixed by fans of the band Primal Scream, which will be premiering soon, and will be released on 19th August before the release of a special edition 12” vinyl on 2nd September. Society say;

“It was a long day in the studio and we weren’t really getting anywhere. We had a chorus but for some reason the verse just wouldn’t work, we were going to scrap it. La Roux was recording in the studio next door to us and we’d been hanging out, talking about Bowie- as you do. It was late and I was feeling tired and deflated so I just started doing silly Bowie impersonations down the mic and the verse just came out. Brendan shouted, ‘That’s it!’ I thought he was joking at first; we finished the track that night… ”

Like so much of Society’s music, it’s a conflict between two different ideas that creates something so refreshing. Whilst wearing its eclectic influences on its sleeve, All That We’ve Become has a completely unique sound that fuses the sounds of trip-hop, soul, hip-hop, psychedelic rock and electronica with a commanding and impassioned vocal across its 13 tracks. Recorded carefully over the past two years in Lynch’s North-West London studio, it is a much-loved product of both men’s backgrounds, respective experience and their tight friendship.
