Rat Boy
Fake ID
New Single!
“The cheeky punk rock project of 19 year old Essex newcomer Jordan Cardy, delivers upon his growing buzz” – The FADER
“A potent mix of Blur’s cockney knees-up side, the urgency of The Libertines and Beastie Boys’ in-yer-face raps.” – NME
“Rat Boy is the next in the lineage of Ian Dury and Mike Skinner.” – Noisey
“One of the UK’s most exciting new acts.” – DIY
After two mixtapes, the ‘Sign On’ single and a succession of riotous live shows, RAT BOY is fast building a tradition as the new voice in a long tradition of witty and politicised British lyricists. Premiered by Huw Stephens at Radio 1 and by i-D online, RAT BOY’s new track ‘Fake ID’ is available to download now.

A three-minute mash-up of scrappy indie-punk energy and boisterous beats, ‘Fake ID’ paints a lyrical dissertation of suburban Britain with a stream-of-consciousness tale of an outsider who gets mugged after being denied entry to a club. It’s all topped by RAT BOY’s half-rapped, half-hollered home-grown vocal delivery.
“You know when someone comes up to you and seems well sketchy?” questions RAT BOY, AKA Jordan Cardy. “They’re either on drugs or they’re trying to take money off you. If you’re with your mates is fine but I try not to go out in Chelmsford on my own. When I used to ride my bike home after working in Wetherspoons, people would always shout shit at you so you think, I’d better ride quicker.”
In addition to the digital release, ‘Fake ID’ will also be available on limited edition coloured 7” vinyl on October 2nd. Backed with a new b-side, the 7” release will feature fold-out poster and lyrics with artwork by RAT BOY himself. RAT BOY’s visual influences include skateboarding artist Mark Gonzales and Snoop Dogg associate Darryl “Joe Cool” Daniels.
RAT BOY’s recent live shows have been a life-affirming rush of barely controlled chaos. A recent Manchester set was picked as NME’s Gig of the Week. They stated: “Essex indie rapper Jordan Cardy destroys the kitchen at a chaotic house party gig.”
RAT BOY will introduce himself to his biggest audiences to date when he plays Reading, Leeds and Bestival in the coming weeks. He’ll then play a full UK headline tour that includes his largest London show so far at Dingwalls before hitting the road again in November with The 1975 and Circa Waves.
