Rainy Milo
New single ‘Bout You Due 3rd March
‘Few teenagers have their shit together like Rainy Milo’ said Wonderland magazine recently, ‘when she uploaded the ‘Limey’ mixtape last year, the pocket of the internet where new music is more important than current affairs nearly melted’ said music magazine The Fly. ‘Her aura surpasses the time she’s been on this planet’ said Clash magazine.
Rainy Milo oozes confidence and attitude. Her voice is soulful and mature way beyond her years, while her music blends jazz, hip hop, R’n’B and pop into something effortlessly cool, forward-thinking and hugely accessible. Always excelling in English class the fiercely independent singer from south-east London loves poetry and has been writing songs since the age of 14, hooking up with buzz producers over Facebook and clocking up hundreds of thousands of views on Soundcloud.
The first proper song Milo wrote, ‘Interlude’ (now called ‘Bout You) in 2011 when she 15, kicked off an internet buzz so huge a&rs lined up to sign her – it was only a home made demo but Gilles Peterson heard the track and put it on his Bubblers Eight compilation. Subsequently Milo was tipped by the MOBO’s as OTW and has since been tipped all over the style and music press. Today, a new version of ‘Bout You gets full release on March 3rd, the same day Milo’s debut album is due for release. On ‘Bout You, Milo sings in her quintessentially English tone with lyrical honesty about first love… it’s future sounding soulful R’n’B with a honeyed dose of jazz undertones, and damned hooky to boot.
Now 18, Milo pens songs on the back of London trains and buses and unknowingly has ‘a way with words that gets to the heart of the problems she writes about’ Sunday Times Culture Feb ’13. Milo’s Tumblr blog and Instagram diary gives us sneak peak look into her unique world, borrowing clothes of her Guyanese mother and throwing together oversized garments in local charity shops but every time looking like an a-list style icon. With her inclusive approach to her fanbase (she tries to answer every query she gets from lipstick shades to where she got her kicks from) it’s no wonder her fanbase is growing rapidly.
