Having charted at number 5 in States, received the best reviews of his career and already surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify (he’s now approaching 1 billion across his catalogue), ‘Awaken, My Love!’ is quickly becoming one of Donald Glover’s most vital artistic statements to date. A distinct sonic evolution – now blending rock, funk, soul and psychedelia – vocal fans of ‘Awaken, My Love!’ include the likes of George Clinton, Questlove (who woke D’Angelo at 4AM urging him to listen to it), Chance The Rapper and many more. Meanwhile a special, virtual-reality themed edition of the album will soon follow on vinyl, including a complete VR film of the PHAROS show which first launched the record live from a custom-designed, interactive dome in the stark desert of Joshua Tree, California.
Childish Gambino has confirmed just a handful of appearances on behalf of ‘Awaken, My Love!’ thus far – first performing an electrifying version of first single ‘Redbone’ on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, then recently in conversation with Nick Grimshaw on Radio 1, and now announced to headline New York’s Governor’s Ball festival in June. This surrounds extensive work this year on ‘Atlanta’ - Glover’s much-celebrated TV show for Fox, which recently won two Golden Globes for its first ever season – and of course ‘Star Wars’ (he was recently cast as a young Lando Calrissian in 2018’s keenly-anticipated Han Solo film).
