As a singer songwriter who pours romance and vitriol into his songs in equal measure and seeks out collaborators from the worlds of electronic music and grime to fuse his sound guitar compositions into something new, Matt Wills stands apart.

Since the 2016 release of his debut EP, Hurricane, Matt has garnered across-the-board acclaim.

A statement of intent, the Hurricane EP featured collaborations with revered British MC Devlin and Mad Decent's Daktyl, and announced Matt’s arrival in no uncertain terms. The success of follow up releases Set You Free EP and Emily single saw Matt collaborate with Maverick Sabre, become a Radio 1 introducing Record of the Week artist, clock up hundreds of thousands of streams across multiple platforms and garner support from a wide range of tastemaker blogs.

Championed by everyone from Skrillex and The Kooks to Halsey and Foxes, Matt Wills has also featured on the latest single from Drum n’ Bass superstar Wilkinson, (We Will Be) and supported Bastille on their recent world tour.

Matt’s debut album, Cigarettes & City Lights is sonically influenced by the classic Tears For Fears album ‘Songs From The Big Chair’. An album that tells the story of Matt’s life so far - including his vices and weaknesses and his love affair with London - it straddles a full emotional spectrum. From the impassioned wallop of Saving Grace and electronic crunch of Set You Free, to the lovelorn Fake Affection and the sparse, plaintive Emily, (a Radio 1 Introducing record of the week when released as a single in May 2017).

It’s an album that follows a lyrical theme of turning weaknesses to strengths: "I wanted to just show that every vice – be it cigarettes, alcohol, sex or those little Reese’s Pieces things with the peanut butter – is just a release some sort of chemical in your body that makes you want more.” explains Matt. “We are all addicted to something. I wanted to show the little bit of darkness in something beautiful."

In addition to the release of Cigarettes & City Lights, this summer will see Matt Wills head back on the road, with a run of festival dates.
