Matt Wills - Hurricane EP

Matt Wills

Hurricane EP

Matt Wills isn’t like the rest. Born in Kent and now resident in London, Matt is a songwriter who pours romance and vitriol into his songs in equal measure, seeking out collaborators from the worlds of electronic music and grime to fuse his guitar compositions into something new.

The Hurricane EP is Matt Wills’ statement of intent and manifesto for an electronic singer-songwriter. It opens with a remix of the title track by Mad Decent’s Daktyl, who also produces the next track Overdose – written about Matt’s insatiable appetite for experience. “I find that if I like something I want to have lots of it - life is a buffet”.

Next up is the ‘love song version’ of Hurricane, featuring a guest appearance from Devlin, before an acoustic version of the contrite Put It All On Me closes the EP.

Matt explains Devlin’s involvement; “Hurricane was the first track I wrote for my album – its about a girl I stupidly fell in love with and she was someone you just shouldn't fall in love with. The day we finished the tune, straight away I said 'I’d love to have Devlin on this'. I’ve always rated Devlin as one of the top MCs in the country and one of my favourite songs of his is 'Let It Go’. I felt like Hurricane had the same vibe of a guy openly talking about his love for someone but in an adult way. Not everything has to be spoken about so delicately.”

He continues, “I love acoustic music, and I wanted to take the heartbreak and feeling from acoustic music and mix it with beats and a little bit of electronica. Electronic music doesn’t have to be upbeat; it can still have emotion, but it’s got to make you want to dance.”

Hurricane EP tracklist:
