BEASTMILK
Debut album ‘Climax’
"Apocalyptic visions and a wicked sense of humor populate audio nightmares as BEASTMILK create visceral, unsettling death rock for the elite... a jangly post-punk death wish." - Pitchfork
"The album is endlessly, almost dizzyingly climactic - a series of soaring peaks that combine the moody, precise darkwave/ post-punk of Interpol or Cold Cave with the maximalist bombast of Arcade Fire." - Stereogum
"BEASTMILK's guitars are alive with bits of Siouxsie and The Banshees, Misfits and Cramps, but folded within structures straight from angry Echo And The Bunnymen, Joy Division and Bauhaus. I feel like I'm sixteen, sitting in my room in the dark listening to music. At the same time it's completely modern. What the fuck?... BEASTMILK has entered the battle for my top album of 2013 with a machete. An astonishing debut. 9/10" - Crave Online
Here are a couple of tracks from Beastmilk's debut album 'Climax', which was released at the end of November. We love this band!!
Recorded, mixed, and produced at GodCity Studios by Kurt Ballou (Converge), 'Climax' conveys a true, genuine excitement and all-consuming state of euphoric thrall in the face of the bleak, end-of-days thematic narratives.
"Elements of a gloomier Joy Division, an angrier Echo & The Bunnymen, a medicated Killing Joke, and even a lush layering of Peter Murphy" - all this, and vastly more, describes the immediately memorable 3D darkness of BEASTMILK. Born in 2010 during a nuclear winter in Helsinki, Finland, the void-mothers of BEASTMILK kick out an irradiated dust of what they appropriately dub "apocalyptic post-punk."
Their debut demo, White Stains On Black Tape, sold out quickly and earned the attention of Darkthrone's Fenriz, who made it one of his favorites of 2010. Metal Hammer Germany soon wrote that "Beastmilk sounds like the secret recording from a psychedelic mass, located stylistically between Roky Erickson, early Misfits, and The Devil's Blood."
