Banfi release new track ‘Never Really Cared’, ahead of their second European and UK headline tour commencing 12th March in Amsterdam, the tour also takes in a London show at Oslo on 22nd March. The new single is taken from their forthcoming debut EP ‘The Jack Powell EP’ released 16th March through Communion Records.

Produced by Rich Wilkinson (Bombay Bicycle Club, White Lies & Honne) ‘Never Really Cared’ channels the storytelling lyricism of iconic singer-songwriters Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen who have moulded lead singer Joe Banfi’s raw and playful style. On ‘Never Really Cared,’ he explores the ennui of a fading love affair, ‘This whole thing we’ve been through, I never really cared about you’ over a bouncing, sun-soaked riff; think Gotye meets The Police.

Speaking about the track, the band said: “the starting point was this idea of exploring how mean and nasty you could make a love song, for no particular reason other than we knew there was something good and real around mean love. Rejection is bad enough when it comes from a stranger, but its at its worst when there's a long history of a relationship that's being entirely rejected, with no sign of gratitude or desire to treasure what happened there.”

The resonant and infectious sound of ‘Never Really Cared’ would be impossible without the strands of Joe, Chris and Aaron’s scattered backgrounds being woven together at one time. Pulling from the personal and sentimental, Banfi’s dynamic translates into this electrifying emotion that is often missing in contemporary indie music.

The brand new EP kicks off another musical year for the London three-piece, following last year’s huge support on air from the likes of BBC 6Music, Radio X and Virgin Radio.

Regulars on the festival circuit they’ve played the likes of Citadel, Great Escape and Bushstock, and supported Bear’s Den, Nathaniel Rateliff, Amber Run and Tempesst on tour. As well as having their own residency at The Old Blue Last. Taking indie back to its roots and honing their sound through live shows - Banfi are off to a great start.
